Ethics on the internet
Topic: hate pages
There are obviously a lot of pages on the internet. Some we all visit dayly,e-mail pages, news pages and so on. Unfortunatly these places that we all visit are the ones least likely to be seen on the nightly news. Usually the pages that are mentioned on the news are pages that have some form of questionable content. Sometimes it is a page that made sombody do something or sometimes it is a page that gives someone information that really shouldn't be so easy to get hold of. On such type of page is a hate page. Hate pages for the most part are a opinion page that voices the creators beliefs. There is nothing wrong with voicing an opinon, in fact that is what makes the internet such a cool thing. You are able to post whatever you want and anybody all around the world can access it. Hate pages are really frowned upon basically because most of these pages are of an aggressive nature. In other words these people usually don't just voice an opinion but sometimes these people suggest acting on there suggestions. Because recently there has been lots of people on the news who have been making attacks on certain groups, the debate has come up whether or not it is such a good idea to have this sort of infromation on the internet. If this debate became an action against these pages it might disrupt the delicate freedom that the internet holds for a lot of people. It is not fair to silence anybodys opinion no matter what it is or how offencive it is. LIfe is not fair, but if action is taken on a hate group it is likely that they would try to disrupt what others post. I wish to say that I do not believe in what is published on hate pages, but to a certain extent I do believe that they have the right to voice there opinion. There are some definate pros and cons to haveing these pages on the internet, some are for the groups themselves and some are for the people against haveing such pages on the web.
Pros for page makers and for haveing this information on the Web
"It's very attractive to kids, particularly brighter, more affluent kids who are on the Internet. The movement for ages has been interested in getting brighter people into its ranks. It doesn't just want street thugs who can beat up bla ck people in bars. What it's really looking for is its future leaders, its tacticians and strategists who can create a second revolution, as opposed to those who can just beat up a few people. And this is something the Net may really be helping with."
Hate pages allow us to see what these particular groups are up to befor they go out and really do what they are describing on their pages.
Cons for having this information on the web
Intentionally or otherwise, stereotyping can fuel prejudice and racism. Extreme expressions of such ignorance are found in hate groups and their campaigns of hate propaganda and recruitment. Hate groups are increasingly using the Internet as a vehicle f or their messages.
People may access information on these pages and do acts of violence on the people who are described in the particular page because they are influenced by the information.
